Research Log – Population growth

  • Africa – grows each year by 3%, reached 1.111 billion by 2013. More people aged under 20 than anywhere else in the world.
  • India – A decadal 25.1% growth.
  • In 8000 BC there were 5million alive.
  • by 1960 70% were living in developing countries.
  • 1950 – 2.53 billion people people in the world. Now – 7.6 billion.
  • By 2100 Nigeria’s population will grow to 1 billion.

China’s one child policy –

  • Introduced in the 1970s.
  • One child parents are awarded a certificate of honour for single parents.
  • Since 1979, 250million births have been prevented.

Pros –

  1. Poverty Eradication
  2. Reduce number of population

Cons –

  1. Forces abortions and human rights violation
  2. Brings Birth Tourism
  3. Exaggerated policy benefits.
